At the annual meeting of the South British Insurance Company, the chairman said the reduction of premium revenue entirely in the marine section was caused by the unfavorable conditions of commerce in all parts of the world. In fire ami accident business the company suffered; no single loss of a large amount, al | though the losses ill both departments were numerous and frequent. The rates obtainable against fire insurance in New Zealand, he regretted to say, remained quite inadequate for the risks undertaken, and there did not seem any prospect of an early improvement. The indications' throughout the world, however, justified the hope of continued prosperity for the company.
