FAVORJiD BY ANGLICAN SYNOD. (By Telegraph.—Special to "News') Auckland, Liu J Night. At the Anglican Synod this afternoon the matter of the formation of a Taranaki diocese of the Church of England was brought up by resolution of Arcndeacon Walsh, and the proposal was *?- ccivcd very cordially. The Archdeacon (whom olj Taranaki people will r»,.incmbcr as a curate in the early days of the district) moved as follows: "That this Synod is of opinion that the time has come ivlien it is advisable to take ■ nto consideration the formation of a diocese of Taranaki and hereby offers its cordial sympathy and encouragement to those who are working in this direction."

Rev. K I,vans seconded, and commended. amidst prolonged applause, the work done by Archdeacon Cole in developing the church work in Taranaki. Rev. W. Beatty deprecated any present increase in the number of bishops 111 Xew Zealand, but he was the sole objector. and the main argument was answered by Archdeacon Walsh when lie >aid that the number of bishops was a matter regulated by necessity, and there Mas here necessity for the creation o; another Bishop. The motion was then carried with anplause and without any dissent.
