WOMAN'S WORLD.

THE USE 01' WOUK. "I was so afraid of becoming narrowininded, living as 1 do in soniewaat ot a groove, that Jl am now taking a n active share in the administration of a largo charity," said a friend to me the oilier day. And [ thought how wise .she was for it is one of the most tlillicult things ii. the world for a woman who Jives quictiv at home to prevent herself from becoming narrow-minded and groovcy as the years go on. There is no doubt that every woman should have some work in life.

Of course, if she is a wife and it mother, she has her home duties, and m these she has a very wide scope for influence and work.

But the single woman is in a very different position, for in many eases sh'is one of a large family, and has no pressing home duties that keep her »t* ployed, and often she linds it-rather a difficult matter to know what to do with her time.

Unless she is obliged to earn her living there is often no special outlet for her energies, and yet she lates to stay a', home doing nothing. It is a vey gvjM plan in such a case to iook round and see if there is not some charity that would .be glad of the help of a capable woman, with an aptitude for business, for a few hours a week, or perhaps there is some special parish work that might be undertaken. If not, then it is a good plan to occasionally take up a new study and work hard at it.

Work in 60me form or the other is necessary to every one who wishes to Keep m good temper and good health, and to avoid that feeling of being out of things that is such a nightmare to ttie woman who is getting on in Tears. So the wise woman is she who finds for herself something with which to fill her lite, for to be busy is to he happy—at all events, with the average person.
