PALMERSTON CASES. by Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmcrston N., Last Night. | Archibald Muir appeared before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., to-day charged with theft from the National Mortgage Co. of cheques to the value of about £873. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court | for trial. Bail was allowed. James iChoatc was also committed for trial on I n charge of criminal assault on a little girl six years of age. Bail was allowed.
ALLEGED TELEGRAM FORGERY. Napier, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Hiram Ashcroft, a foundry employee, and Arthur Harden, a telegraphic despatch clerk, both young men, were charged with the forgery of telegrams. They pleaded not guilty. The evidence went to show that by' means of bogus telegrams Edward Linibriek, cycle agent, doing business as a bookmaker, was 'ed to pay sums of ,t'22 18s and £5 to Ashcroft on tlie results of horse races, improper use being made of official pap>?r and date stamp. One of the two cases was heard to-day and both accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
