Received 10, 5.3 p.m. i Melbourne, October 11. ! The Victorian Amateur Turf Cliro's meeting opened at Caullield to-day. -No meeting yet held at Caullield opened under more favorable circumstances, n being favored by brilliant sunshine, with a light breeze. Ladies attended the heath in large numbers, so that th'ir spring costumes lent a blaze of color to the scene. The crowd was never larger. The Saturday afternoon closing was probably largely responsible for the big at teudnnoe. The course was in splendid order, and the r neing good. Representatives of all the States made up lnr,;o fields. The betting ring was never busier, notwithstanding the restrictions under the Gambling Act. Inter-State visitors assembled in numbers. Lord and Lady C'armichael were the only Government House representatives present. There is every promise of a most successful carnival. Results:—
1010 Handicap—Honeymoon 1, Burton 2, Gunpowder 3. Twenty-eight started. Won by a head, two lengths separating second and third horses. Time lniin 2»'/ 2 sec. Debutant Stakes—Habd 1, Baza 2, Sweet Brew 3. Nineteen started. The winner led all the way and won by two lengths, the third horse being three lengths behind. Time, 50%scc. Caulfield Stakes, one mile—Artillerie 1. Alawa 2, Post Town 3. Also started: Lanacre, Knox, lolaire, Pink-'un, Kyeal. gerie Waipuna, Mushka and Mother Goose. Artillerie led off, but soon fall back. Pink-'un, -Knox, Linacre and Mother Goose led the field to the back, where Pink-'un fell back. Knox led on the railway side from Linacre, Pink-'un. Post Town and Artillerie, the last being Alawa and lolairc. Post Town led to the turn from Knox and Artillerie. The latter then shot out, and, gorm* easily, won by two and a-half lengths" half'a length separating the second and third horses. Time, lniin 56y a sec. Steeplechase—Fortuna (10.7) 1, £ ar l Castles (10.13) 2, Comus (9.3) 3. Other starters Larrikin, Snob, Boomeran;',Harvest, Up-to-Date and Kaffir King. A good race, Fortuna winning by threequarters of a length, a neck 'between second and third. Time, 3min 54'/,sec. Caulfield Guineas—Malt King 1, Prince Footc 2, Mala 3. Other starters: Master Gluton, Captain White. Sir Edwin. Spryfoot, Sunny South and Carman! Prince Foote led five lengths from Sunny South the next being Mala, Captain White and Malt King. There was no change until three furlongs from honn, when Malt King took charge from Ciutain White, Mala and Sunny South. A.J.C. MEETING. Received 10, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, October 10. The weather was fine and the attendance good for the last day of the Australian J.C. spring meeting.
