THE FELTHAM BANK FRAUD. London, October 8. Hcnson has been found guilty of fraud in connection with Feltham's Hank, and was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. WRECK AT THE ORKNEYS. London, October 8. The Edenmore, from Hamburg, is ashore at Stronsay, in the Orkney Islands. The crew was saved. It is feared the vessel is a total wreck.

COTTON FARMING. Berlin, October S. It is reported in Berlin that a syndicate of British and German" cotton spin- | ners has acquired 15,000 acres in youth-west Texas for division into small holdings for cotton farmers. Preference is to be given to those of German origin.
WORKERS' COMPENSATION. London, October 8. The Home Office statistics show that £2,080,G72 was paid in 1908 to compensate disabled workmen and the dependents of those killed. In seven great industries there were 3447 fatalities and 325.484 disablements out of 7,512.753 employees.
