TROUT FISHING.
To the Editor. Sir, —In your issue of to-day I notice a letter headed "Trout Fishing," siguej by -Mr. llcAlluin. iam very ijiensed to hear that they liberated some fish in the Warea river this year, it being the lirst for some live or six years, 1 believe. In the Waiweranui it is longer. I do not think the country rivers have I ie'en getting justice in the past. All the tisli that can be'spared are dumped into the Waiwakaiho. or other streams around the .town, at the count) * people's expense. There has been close oil £l2 in licenses this fast four years given to the society from this district, and surely a little of this amount should have been given back to us in fish before now. Fish arc not very costly. 1 had an oil'er of 1000 fish from another society last year, but it would not have paid me to take them to liberate for the people's sport. Referring to the ponds for rearing young iish, the society say they will bear the greater part of the cost. This is all right in one way. but how long will it be before tile lisji are lit to liberate'i- It w ill require some lime and labor spent on them, and it is not very nice for me to do all this, and take out a license to catch them, while a number of others who spent no time or labor on them would get the sport at my expense. If everybody who took an' interest in lishing would do something in this matter it would be a good thing, and it would not only help ourselves, but the society as well. But it is no fun for one person to do it. 1 hope in the future the country anglers will be remembered whenever there are any fish to liberate. It is not very encouraging for me to take out a license and pay pounds for tackle to fish in a district where there are few fish, and, as 1 said before, paying for a license to keep the townspeople in fish. Thanking you for valuable space,—l am. etc.. WAREA CORRESPONDENT. 7th October, 1009.
