The contract for the first section '.i the Auckland and suburban drainage Rystcm, involving an expenditure by IV Drainage Board of over £12,000 of Mm loan money raised for tlic purpose, w?s jet to-day at a meeting of the Works Committee set up to deal with tendc-*'. The successful tenderers were Mess's. Ronton and Mays, who secured the contract :t 112514 19s fld. By the terns of the -itrart the work lias to be commence u-tically at once and to • e coir' '-ii in twelve months. It will - .(, finployment for that period of ■ ;;) to 50 men. The same comnvt- ' :_• to-day decided to invite tenders for two further contracts, namely, Xo. 2 section of the main sewer (another big work across' Hobson Bay to CampMi Terrace, Parnell), and also the Arcl. Bill aiiilT brancli sewer, Xo. 7 (from the end'of the City Council's preseit sewer to the old abattoir site at GreyLynn, along the whole length of tie 'Arch Hill gully. With the letting o. the three first contracts referred to, the Board will have works in hand involving an expenditure approximating i £55,000 in all.
