PRISON GATE HOME.
A MEETING OF PROTEST. By Teiegrunn.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A largely attended meeting of Island Bay' residents and property-owners tonight passed a resolution protesting against the proposal of the Salvation Army to establish a prison-gate home m that suburb. A. deputation was appointed to wait on the City Council. Among the speakers was Mr. Justice Edwards. He said he was a pioneer resident of Island Bay. The only roof he could call his own was there. Womm and children would not feel safe if thi establishment proposed were set up, unless the Army undertook to send a brigade to protect the population or he police force was greatly increased. He recognised the Army was doing a noble work, but at the same time the inspectable portion of the community must he considered.
