It is quite surprising to read that Osiris, who quite recently failed at Blenheim, keeps on scoring in 'Strain, and on Saturday last led a big field home in the Trial I'late at Rnudwi'ek. Purakau looked all over a winner in the four-furlong race at Lower Valley on Friday, btt Swallow came with a brilliant run and beat the favorite narrowly. Swallow was submitted to auction after the race, and was bought bv Mr. W. C. Tully, the owner of Purakan. fo r 00 guineas. Swallow is bred on sprinting lines, being by Conqueror out of Waiwhcra. She only won one race last year, the Maiden at Lower Vallev. which she gathered in by eight length?. She will join 11. Fletcher's team at Tani'creniknu.

Master Soult ran over six furlongs in lmin Usee, at Hastings on Saturday and is very well. He carries top hamper in the Welter Handicap this afternoon. Martyrium was reported to have acquired the ability to jump quieklv an 1 well, but her recent 'displays on the Hastings tracks have been verv poor. fiallyshannon, who figures iii the Wnitapu Hack Handicap, led Muskerry at the end of six furlongs in lmin lTsee—an attractive gallop—on Saturday morniin.
