Sir Robert Stout (Chief-Justice "f New Zealand) has received the honorary doctorate of law from the Manchester University. Mr. L. li. Todd, the international foo 1 .- baller, joins the Aarawa at Wellington for England, lie will engage in business and play football for Wignn. The resignation of the Rev. F. W. Stent, assistant curate to the Rev. J. I'. Cassell, Hawcra, is announced on his preferment to the new parochial district of Manaia. John Roberts, the father of professional billiards as it is now played, is to pay a farewell visit to Australia and New Zealand next year. He will arrive in Australia in April. Mr. V. 11. Wood, wlio was in business in Greytosvn Nort'ii as an auctioneer for a great many years, has sold his homestead at Tauranga, and intends to travel about for a. few months. Miss McDonald, rookery instructress at the Technical School, was the recipient of a letter of appreciation and a silver sweet dis'h from the ladies of the class. The presentation was made bv Mrs. K. A. Walker.

Lieut-Colonel 1!. \Y. C. Ohaytor, who went Home in December, 1900, to go through a course of instruction at the Stall College at Cambcrlcy, returned on Monday by the Tainui. The Stall' College cours'e lasts for two years, including attachment for practical experience with units of the various arms of the service, and a visit to the FraneoGerniau battlefields in Alsace-Lorraine. After successfully passing out of the Stan" College, Colonel Chaytor was, with two others, selected to go through a further course at the Royal Naval College, Portsmouth.
