TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.
N MONTHLY MEETING. At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki County Council yesterday there were present: Cr| J. Brown (chairman), Hill, AUenson, Carter, Stevens, Hopson, Andrews and Tate. REPORTS.,
The county engine-driver (Mr. Urry) reported that the crusher worked 11
days,- crushing 8!)9 J / 2 yards, as follows: 1 Foreman Holmes 402 yards, Foreman Eva (Carrington road contract) 284 yds, Breakwater road Hi3M.»yds, Avenue road 50yds. The total crushed for Carrington road was now 414 yards.
MOA RIDING. Foreman Jones reported that the following settlers formed a working bee to repair Tariki road on the 6th and 7th: Mr. C. Young, horse and dray; Mr. Knowlcs, 3-hor«e team; A. Cowling,-2-hoivsc team; W. Smith, horse and ■ dray; Mr. Stevenson, 2-horse team and' extra man. He had to get a man two days to help on the road. The heiwy rain on the 20th caused the drams on Tariki road to Hood over the metal, causing slight damage, and also on the Mountain road. lie had repaired the decking of the Ngatoro bridge, and also repaired the Kurapete bridge, of which Inglewood would pay half cost. With Mr. Stevenson he had inspected the culvert on Tariki road. It required a drain to be made about three chains from the Tariki road to Ross road, the natural water-course.
JUNCTION ROAD EAST. Foreman Bennett reported that most of his time during the month had been fpent on the Zigzag. There had been some very bad slips and the road was completely blocked for wheel traffic for three days. The slip that came down on Monday, the 20th, took away about two chains of fencing and made the road very narrow. He had taken twelve planks from Tarata bridge for making posts for fencing, as two of the places I were dangerous. JUNCTION ROAD WEST. Foreman Cheffings reported for the month that lie had been engaged in patching the road, repairing side-tracks, clearing drains, and banking up the sides of the road. F. G. Sole started carting metal on contract No. 152 on the 27th and had delivered 50yds on tue road, 20yds the first day and 30yds the next. The Henui bridge requires two or three new deck plank 6, and he required five plans 9 by 4 by 12 delivered at the Henui bridge.—The required timber was glinted. WAITARA RIDING.
Foreman Holmes reported that 492 yards of metal had been carted out during the past month, 00 yards on Jeffrey's contract and 402 on Sole's contract, Waiwakaiho. This completed contract No| 130. If the Council thought about protecting the concrete pier at Waiwakaiho bridge during the summer be thought it would he a good plan to have about 60 yards of stone broken small for it and the dock of the bridge is too flat. It requires making up in the centre to carry off the water that lays on it.—Steps will be taken to have the necessary work prepared for the iWaiwakaiho bridge. I OMATA (NORTHERN).
.Foreman Huso reported that he had been engaged during the month cutting noxious weeds, raking up loose mctai, and patching the road. The roads a T o now in fair order. He required a man for two or three days to put some boulders at the foot of the Oakura bridge pier as the - water is scouring. He reported that Mr. J. Penwarden had used two and a-half coils of plain wire that were got to fence the filling at Oakura with, and it was not now fit for fencing l as it was twisted about. Penwarden has also cut up and removed ten planks 16ft long, 12 by 2, which wag used for the crusher platform. Considerable discussion ensued on the cost of dismantling the old Oakura bridge by Mr. Penwarden.
Cr. Andrews said he believed the timber from the bridge was worth quite £SOO or £GOO. Or. Allanson said the present experience should be a lesson to the Council, and snch work should only be deilt with by contract. Cr. Carter considered ihe cost was far greater than the Council had anticipated. Init the chairman pointed out that the puriri was too valuable to be muchly dismantled as might be done under contract.

Foreman Brosnan reported for the month that lie had been employed chiefly in cleaning out gutters and digging the grass away <lOlll the edge of the metal to take water oIF the roads. It was decided to use lift pipes foi renewing the culvert at Wcrekino, just beyond the l'uniho toll-gate. Foreman Eva reported roads in failorder. Sole had completed contract 151, putting through and delivering metal 011 Carrington road. 384 yds at & lid per yard. C 75 -Is. Mr. T. Collins was entitled to ,'!4ydn over amount already certified to on the boulder contract at 3s ■ld per yard ( Co 13s Id). Foreman Xorris reported that during the month he had been engaged 'doing ircneral roid work, keeping water-tables clear. banking up sides, spreading meta'. Minding, patching, etc. T. Collins had carted 1511 yds broken metal, which was spread on different parts of the roid. Re .Munro and others' petition, he had had a good look at eaeli place, formation. metalling, widening, etc. The formation and metalling of the junction of five chains would cost about .C3O, illchiding a paved crossing, pipes of any kind were practically 110 good, and 11'e would recommend the paved channel if it were put down properly. The 30 chains of formation would cost about 15s per chain ( C 22 IDs). Widening metal would take six or eight yards (about 1':! -Is), „ total cost of £55 14s. However, it might be done a shade Under.

The tipper Hurford Koad Hoard wrote asking tile Council to take Mcps tfl fora . plot* repairs to the Hurford road bridge
as aoon as possible.—The Council regretted that it had no funds available to build the bridge. It was decided that the Council should purchase blackbirds' and minahV eggs at 3dper dozen, and heads at fid per dozen.
It was decided to request Mr. Gunson to discontinue a nuisance at Belt road.
A return was presented showing the total collections at Puniho toll-gate during September wei'e £4l 17s Gd.
A resolution was passed that the Council was surprised to find that the Clifton County Council should remove timber from 'the Tarata bridge after having received a letter from the Taranaki County Council requesting that the timber should be put up at public auction.
In reply to a letter from the owners of the Dartmoor estate, the Council decided to require the owners to form the roads on the estate 42ft wide, with a footpath 12ft wide on each road, all drains and culverts to be constructed where necessary to the Council's satisfaction.
Cr. Hill drew attention to a motor car-gig accident that recently happened on the Mountain road at L'.'pperton Junction, and moved that Messrs MeKee be requested to put the fence on the proper line.—Carried. Accounts amounting to £SBO 13s 7d were passed for payment. Thev were divided as follows:—Administration account, £lO5 2s 2d; Moa riding, £OO 17s | Od; Waitara riding, £10(1 Is sd; Oniata I riding, £l4l 17s Gd; Hurworth ridi'i", I £l4B 14s 9d.
