LAWN TENNIS.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. At the annual meeting of the Tiaranaki Lawn Tenuis Association the Waverlev, Manaiu, Hawera, Waitara, Wynii (Stratford) and New Plymouth Clubs were represented. Mr. 11. Stoeker presided. The report presented stated that twelve clubs now belonged to the association. The most important event during the year was the winning of the Sew Zealand championship banner b; Miss Powdrcll winning tile New Zealand championship ladies' singles, and with Mis ({ray annexing Die championship doubles. It was a unique per-' formance for one player to win the banner, and Miss Powdrell's performance was highly eulogised. The animal Taranaki tournament was held at the New Plymouth Tennis Club grounds in the middle of January, and despite the weather some really good tenuis' was witnesse'.l. The play of Misses Nunneley and Powdrell and Messrs. Wilding, Parker, Fisher, Brown, and others added greatly to the attractions of the tournament. The annual match against Auckland was played at New Plymouth on February 21), Taranaki winning liy 21 liM'tches to 3. The banner had been destroyed in the Strand Arcade lire in Auckland, having been sent to the Auckland Association to have the name Taranaki worked on it. Dr. Leatham was elected president of the Association, and Mr. J. l'aton secretary. It was decided to hold the champion ship meeting early in January. Eulogistic reference was made to the manner in which Mr. Paton had a/itei as secretary during the championship tournament, and n very hearty vote ot •thanks was passcll to him.
