MOA DAIRY COMPANY
The uMoa Dairy Company held its annual meeting of shareholders in the l'urisli riall, Inglewood, on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of shareholders. Mr. D. Uerlihy,cluunuaii of directors, presided. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, already puolished, Mr Ilcrliliy said lie was not going to bother with "a. debute on the work of the year, but he was prepared to answer any questions, or, at any rate, he would In' to. '.Mr. C. Old asked how it was that the wages account was so higli. Mr. James went into a long explanation, lie pointed out the wages account for the previous year was £1274. and for 1008-9 the account was £148!) 12s 7d. a difference of £ls 12s 7d. Of this £l2 l«s was paid to the late secretary for August, when there were two secretaries, their terms of office having overlapped. Then during this year payments had been made for painting and sundry works done in the .winter months by the company's employees. During 1007-8 several amounts had been paid for similar repairs, but not charged lo wages account. The wages per pound of butter-fat last year worked out at .300, and for the previous five ycars.3oo, a difference of six-tliousandg of a penny per pound. Mr. lierlihy started to make a few remarks, and general uproar ensued. Mr. Burrows: Who made that had butter I was eating? The manager explained that there had been a woody flavor in the first one or two ehurnings from the new churn. As far as Tic knew, not one pound of it had been returned to the factory. Mr. Haverbicr Warmly extolled til" cleanliness of the Kaimata creamery and staff, which lie considered far superior to the central.
Mr. lierlihy, in concluding a not very instructive "of illuminating debate on the company's affairs, claimed* that despite the heavy expenditure on improvv incuts tho company had paid out to suppliers an amount equal to anything in Taranakl; and the butter produced had been second to none in the Dominion. During the discussion there were scleral pas'sages-at-arms between the chairman and" Mr. Todd, and the chairman and Mr. fl. Mackie, amidst the loud applause nnd cheering of the respective factions. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following was the voting for seven scats on the directoratei —J. Rtaekurski 433. D. Horlihv 424, W. Jones 422, M. McMahon 388, W. 11. Leech 352, CI. Mackie 344, R. D. Harford 340. 0. E. Dobsou 340, J. N. Thinvcll 332, D. Todd 322. | The chairman had to give his casing vote "between Messrs Dolison and Barford, and declared for the latter. Thj first seven in tile foregoing list were then declared duly elected. Messrs Dewhirst and Hopsou were re elected auditors. Some discussion took place upon the system of getting inUk for starters, and a recommendation was made to the directors to purchase it direct. A motion to pay the manager a bonus of £lO, proposed by Mr. McMahon, was lost, amidst occlainmation. Votes of tlianks to the scrutineers and to the chairman terminated the business.
