(From Our Own Correspondents*) WAITAIU.' The annual general meeting of members of the Waitara Lawn Tennis Club was held on Wednesday evening. 'There was a good attendance the president (Mr. H. E. Gilbert) presiding. T'.ic statement of accounts showed the receipts to be £33 2s Sd, members' subscriptions accounting for £3l 17s (id of that amount. The expenditure totalled £29 7s Bd, leaving u credit balance of £3 14s lOd. The croquet account showed a credit balance of £1 2s lij. The assets totalled £43 4s lOd, and liabilities nil.

In movlug the adoption of the balancesheet, Mr. Harrison congratulated the (dub on the prosperous condition, and complimented the secretary (Mr. L. H. Sampson), who, he said, was largely responsible for the success of the dull, lie having devoted a large amount of time and labor to the courts. The following new members were elected.' Messrs. Passan, Hogg, S. E. Egglcston, E. ('. Smith, ('. H.' Stead; Aliases Croll (2), Gilbert (2). Cameron, Reeves (2). Alr>. Allan and Mrs. Knight. Messrs. L. Sampson. Harrison and Allan. It was resolved that honorary members' fee be 3s; (bat the opening day b 1 left to the committee to fix a date; that Air. R. White be appointed the club's delegate to the association.

A heartv vote of thanks was accorded Mr. and Mrs. R. ..White, who had left the district,, and" the meeting hoped they would still■ continue to see Air. and Mrs. White on the courts during the coming season. A vote of thanks was also accorded to Mr. L. 11. Sampson for his valuable services during the past Season; also to the ladies' committee and supporters.

On the judgment summon*, W. I'. Knell v. Push (Mr. Wilkes for judgment creditor), creditor explained that since last court (lay the sum of 30s had lieen paid, and there was now an amount of 3s- owing and costs. Debtor was ordered to pay this amount, in default seven days' imprisonment.

The inspector's report on the school was considered satisfactory, in connection with the beautifying of the school grounds and the supervision of the premises, 79 marks out of a possible hundred were allotted. Milking is in full swing now, and the local factory is turning out a considerable increase on last year. There is general dissatisfaction over the low price paid for butter-fat during the last season and with the management of the company.

TARATA. The settlers' aimual ball was held in the hall on Thursday last, and was one of the most enjoyable dances of the year. The music was excellent, the refreshments delicious, and the attendance far above the ordinary. About seventy couples took part in the dancing. People came twenty miles (from Matau and Purangi), and others from Inglewood, and those who came from the furthest away homes were heard to remark that they enjoyed the evening so much that they were willing to attend on the next similar occasion. The Kille Club will finish the trophy competition on Saturday next.
