WHANGAMAMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Whangamomona County Council to.ik place on Friday last, when there were present: Councillors W. A. MeCulclnn (.in the chair), E. B. Roberton, J. M Jones, R. MeChtggage, A. Meredith, and J, Anderson. It was resolved to notify Mr. Franks that consent to the erection of a gate on Arnold road would be withdrawn until he complied with. tile requirements of the Public Works Act. The engineer's report was read and adopted. It was decided to inform Mr. Ireland of the tenor of the Resident Road Engineer's letter concerning Brewer road deviation, and that he would be advisml further when a survey had been made.

The Council went into committee to consider tenders, and on resuming the clerk reported that W. B. Reid's ten Icr

at £475 bad been accepted for t'e Whangamomona road papa-burning contract. The report was adopted.

A letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding the vesting o( section 37 f lluiakama Village, .was i«ferrcd to the riding members. Cr. Meredith reported that he had grunted a temporary permit to conduct a billiard-room to J. Moir. The Council confirmed Cr. Meredith's action, and resolved that a billiard-room license be granted to .7. Moir as from the Ist ot September last.

H was resolved to inform the Stratfonl County Council that the Whangamomona County Council wns willing i,o join in an application to the GoverMniont for the appointment of a commissioner to arbitrate on the question of the cost of upkeep of the Oliurn road, and that on a reply heing received frOM the Covernineiit, (he Council requests

A. Coxhead waited on the Council and complained of cattle and horses trespassing on the roads in the Central riding, lie suggested that a ranger be appointed immediately. It was then resolved to terminate forthwith dip "present arrangements with the ranger, and to appoint D. J. Davis, Ko'nouvatahi, as county ranger from date On the usual terms.

Cr. JfcCntchan gave notice of motion for the institution of a special order making by-laws for the control of traflic. It was decided to request Mr. M. I. Jury to eonfc t with Cr. Meredith in re. gard to the mutter of a gate across the Brewer road deviation.

A resolution that tenders closing at next meeting of the Couneil be called for metalling one mile of the BrcwerMangaelin road eastward from the present metal, en account of the £38(10 loan, was carried. Notice of motion for the institution of a special onler authorising the raising of the Mangaowliata .C3.'io loan wag given by Cr. Koberton. On the motion of Crs. McCutchan and Meredith the following resolution was carried:—That the good offices of the member for the district be requested in furtherance of the objects of the following resolution, which he is asked to submit for the consideration of the Minister fur Vulilir- Works:—That this Council respectfully directs the attention of the Minister for Public Works to the difficulties and extra cost under which hightailing and other development work in connection with laud
