There was a fair attendance of nieni- . bers last night at the annual uicetiiw of' , the New Plymouth Amateur Swiiniiiin" Club, Mr. H. Stocker presiding. ° i ! The annual report stated that the' year's work had been unsatisfactory financially, concluding with a debit ba'huce of £2 14s 3d, although there was a credit balance of £4 18s 4d at the sta-t of the year. The West Coast champion-
ship meeting resulted in a loss. The club championship was halved by Gibbons and Brown. Girls' races hail b«en included in the first sports programme, but owing to the modesty of the "iris the interest was small, a n'd the Major, Mr. Tisch, promoted a girls' sports meeting, donating the prizes himself. Mr Tisch also gave the club verv liberal support. Owing to the dilatoriness of the Hawera Club in replviwr to corn*, pondenee on the matter, the question of forming a Taranaki centre was held : n abeyance. A swimming club would lio doubt be formed in connection with the I Inglewood swimming baths, ami this ' should assist the movement. The lifiI saving competition for West End school' children had not vet been held. Tiie j club's polo shield was won bv East End. Ihe committee returned thanks to Air Morris (the baths custodian), to the retiring officials, and to the Press During the year prizes were given by Messrs U Tisch, W. L. Newman, H. Stocker, J. Swanson, *urlong, W. Lints, J. Smitn, B. Stohr, and A. R. Standish. The balance-sheet showed reeciuis amounting to £42 8 S -2d. and expenditure £32 14s 3d. Liabilities included unpaid accounts £l2 Bs, and there was £9 13s Bd in the bank amongst £l2 4s 9d assets.
Officers were elected as follow:—Pusident, Mr. W. L. Newman; vice-presi-dents, Messrs G. Tisch, J. Smith, and A. E. Watkins; club captain, Mr. H. Stocker; vtee-captajn, Mr. F. Tumbull; Don. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A 0 Maxwell (re-elected); auditor Mr K Webster; committee, the captain, vicecaptain and secretary, Messrs Pfankuch A. L. Dixon, S. Burgess, Hawkins and Lmts; handieapper, Mr. W. Lints; dele, gate to Wanganui centre of the Association, Mr. L. Meuli (Wanganui). The subscription was fixed at 2s 6d for adults and Is Od for boys tinder 10 New members were elected:—Messrs Burgess, 'Telford, P. Pritchard G. Bollinger, C. MeAllum, B. Emery, J Power J. Brown, A. W. Morey. W.'Roebuck, C.' Lawry, A. Courtney, Cooper, R. Walsh i E. Clow, B. Allen. E. Clifton. E. Elliott' Mr. Tumbull mentioned the possibility of several Urenui swimmers joining the club, and it was decided to offer every. encouragement to country members. Mr. ,1. Smith, of the Imperial Hotel las generously donated a challenge cud to the club to be competed for members the distance to be one mile and the trophy to be won three .times before becoming the property of the successful competitor.
