VOLUNTEERING.
I'XL'l! EASED STRENGTH 01' TIIE FORCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night, the August volunteer returns showed <in UK') ease over the totals of any previ- »»* year in the history of New Zealand, that being the ease, it is satisfactory to record that the September returns exhibited a numerical superiority over tliosv for August, and reason for congratulation is more pronounced because the increase is apparent in the adult volunteer ranks as distinguished from those of lide clubs and cadets. The increase would have been even more pronounced had the. strength of the four training corps for officers formed recently in Otago and Canterbury been illeluded in the September figures. These, however, were not received ill time, and they will be added to the totals for October, which arc likely to establish a new record.
