LONDON MARKETS. By Cable.--Press Association.—Copyright London. September 20. Copra .is quiet. South Sea in bags is quoted at £2O to £2O ss. Shares—Waihi: Buyers £0 I2s Gd, sellers £9 15s. Junctions: Buyers 47s Od, sellers 50s. Tin—On spot £l3O, three months £l4O 2s Od, Lead, £l2 los. Babbits are very firm. There is a brisk sale fo r first grade, large Sydncys retailing at 10s to 10s fid, young 13s 0<; to 14s Od. Hares are in strong demand an r l scarce at 3s. Wool is brisk, with the highest prices of the series riding. There is competition for all sorts and all selections. A hardening tendency in prices is everywhere apparent. ' The Hastings clip sold at 0y 4 d, Kawarnu 10% d. The quantity catalogued to date is 41,700 bales, and the quantity sold 40,003 bales. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat Is 1.300,000 quarters. The Continent totals 1.400,000 quarters, the Atlantic shipments 180,000 quarters, and the Pacific shipments 25,000 quarters.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Monday. The High Commissioner's cable states: Mutton—The market is quiet, but holders are linn. As shipments are now .arriving there is a very small trade and it is very disappointing, being only a hand -to • mouth demand. Canterbury 3%, North Island 3%d. Lamb—The lamb market is quiet. There >s a demand fo r heavy-weight on account of a shortage. Light-weignt Canterbury lamb is quoted at 3%d. North Island 3%. Beef—The market is weaker, with downward tendency. The supplies of River Plate are heavv. New Zealand hinds are quoted at :P/,d r fores 2%d. Butter—The market is quiet, hut firm. Tile demand has fallen oIF considerably on account of the high prices. Nominally there is no change in prices. New Zealand is quoted at llfis per cwt., Austrian 114s, Danish 1245, Siberian 100s. Cheese—The market is quiet. Prices are slightly weaker, tfew Zealand is quoted at 57s Od. and Canadian 56s 6d. Hemp—The market i 6 firm, but offerings are very small. "Reports from Manila indicate that light shipments are ex. pected from there to London. The quotations are (nominal):—New Zealand good fair grade on spot £2O ss, fa<r grade on spot £25 ss. fair current' Man. ila on spot £25 10s; October-December shipments, New Zealand good fair grade £2O. fair grade £25, fair current Man'la £25 10s. The Manila output is 21.000 bales.
