AFFECTING BOTH HEMISPHERES. liy Cable.—Press Association. —Copyriga London, September 20. A magnetic storm rendered most of the telegraphic lines in Britain and America useless for two hour»' after mid-day 011 Saturday. The storm is believed to be due to the Aurora Borealis.
Received 27, 10.3 a p.m. London, Soptember 27. The observatory at Cheltenham, .Maryland, recorded on Saturday the severest magnetic storm since the observatory was founded. Wellington, September 27. 'the Aurora Austraiis mentioned in the cable.-,' was also seen in Cook Strait on Sunday morning by .Mr. S. Thornton, a passenger by the Regulus. He says the whole of the eastern and southern skv at 4.15 a.m. was lit up by magnificent streamers, lasting till 4.40. The display began at 1.30 a.m. The captain »f the liegulns says he never saw such a >Jpljndid exhibition, and that any brilliant display is most unusual in'these latitudes.
