LIVE STOCK MARKETS. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. At the Haymarket on Saturday good store pigs made 28s Od to 325, small dn. 13s to 2U Od, weancrs 9s to lis, calves 4s Oti A number of unbroken halfdraught horses sold at prices ranging from £l3 to £lO, hacks £9 to £lO. Cattle.— At Douglas on Monday, owing to the wet weather, there was only a small yarding, and practically everything was sold at the hammer. Mixed yearlings made 29s Gd, empty heifers £2 10s to £2 17s Od, springing heifers £4 15s to £O, 2-year steers £3, 3-year do. £3 17s to £4 3s, store cows £2 0s to £2 13s Od, forward do. >£3 4s, bulls £1 19s to £3 14s. At the name sail I held a clearance of dairy stock on account of Mr. J. Dromgool and other vendors, cows close to profit making £0 to £8 7s Od, backward do. £3 12s Od to £5 15s. At Stratford on Tuesday there was a fair yarding of store cattle, most lines being placed at the following prices:— Yearling steers 30s to 41s, yearling heifers iios, yearling Jersey heifers £2 lis, empty heifers £2 12s to £3, 2-year steers £3 0s Od, 3-ycar do. £4 2s to £4 10s. store cows £2 Ss to £2 10s forward do. £3 2s (id, bulls £1 -I, Od to £3 10s. There was a big yarding of dairy cuttle, with good romprtilion. Springing heifers close up made £5 to . £9 10s. backward do. £3 12s Oil to '.C<J loe, springing cows front £4 to £7 15s.
VIGKERS & STEVENS' REPORT. Owing to the wet weather there was only a moderate entry of cattle in our lnglewood yards on Wednesday. Prices were about the same as late sales. Mixed yearlings made £1 9s Od to £1 '2s Od, yearling steere £1 10s to f,\ I9s, empty heifers £2 12s Od to £2 10s Od, store cows £1 15s to £2 19s, springing cows £3 to £4 10s, springing heifers £3 10s to £0 ss.
At Mrs. T. Smith's clearing sale on Tuesday there was a good attendance, and the cows made good prices. Old cows made £3 10s to £5, young cows springing and in profit £.O 5s to £9 sa, bull £3 ss, spring dray £l3 10s, and sundries at fair prices. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Strafford, have received the following cable from tlreir London house, under Thursday's date:— Wool sales—Thert was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental and American buyers being active. Tb» opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with 'ast sale's closing rates, prices are about 5 per cent to 7»/ 3 per rent, higher for merinos and about 10 lo 15 per cent, higher for crossbred* ADDINGTON. At Addington live stock market «n Wednesday there were fair entries of stock and a good attendance. The entry of store sheep was a small one, though more than double that of last week, and was composed chiefly of ewes and Jambs. Wethers and hoggets sold up to last week's rates, the demand for the former showing an improvement. Ewes and lambs also sold very we'i. .Wethers made Us 4d, halfbred wether hoggets 12s Id, small hoggets (mixed sexes) lo lis Id, ewes of mixed ages with good lambs 8s Od all counted, fail-ing-mouth ewes with lambs 6s 9d all counted, aged 5s to lis 4d all counted. The entry of fat lambs totalled 142, and included some well-grown prime sorts. Prices were, however, not equal to I hose of last week, ranging from 9s to Ijs, and up to 196 for extra good. There was a much larger entry of fat sheep than last week, several consimments coming to hand from South Canterbury. The yarding was a very mixed one, showing that there arc only short supplies of fat sheep in the district. There were more ewes in than of late, as farmers are now able to pick out some of tliose that have not bred this year. The sale opened at prices below the exceptionally high rates ruling last week. A West Coast buyer took a"number of lots of heavy sheep, and graziers, who bought unfinished wethers, assisted to maintain prices. Extra fine wethers to 30s Oil, prime 17s 6d to 22s Od, lighter 14s 2d to 17s, prime ewes 17s 6d to 20s lOd, others 12s Od to 17s, hoggets 12s Od to 17s 9d, merino wethers lis 5d to 19s, merino ewes lis to 15s 3d.
The yarding of fat cattle totalled 18a head, which was below the average. The larger proportion were good quality steers. The demand was brisker than last week, and prices were well maintained, though there was no appreciable advance. Steers made £6 7s (id to £lO 17s Od, heifers i\s 2s Cd to O 2s Cd, tows JM 10s to 17 2s (id-equal to 20s Iju to 22s (id for prime, 18s Gd to 20s tor medium, and 10s Gd to 18s for coit and inferior beef per 1001b. A fairly large yarding of veal calves, mostly email, made 4a Od to £2 Ss and extra to £3 ISs.
A fair yarding of store cattle was made up chiefly of 15 to 13-months sorts and these were in keen demand at advanced prices, selling at £2 to £' Ms. Yearlings brought 30s fid, 2-vear steers £3 10s, 2-year heifers £3 s*s to £3 las, dry cows-30s to £4 7s. Dairy cows sold well, prices rangin" irom £1 10s to £9. °
There was a medium entry of fat pi"S and a good demand, baconcrg realisms improved values. Stores were in large supply, and prices declined about 2s per head, with the result that several lines were passed. Choppers sold up to £1 /• ~h !f"7 baco « er s GOs to 07s, and lighter 47s fo sos—equal to 4%d to B<l per lb; large porkers 41s to 4B S , and lighter sorts 35s to 40s-oqual to SVA to s|id per lb; large stores 28s to 33«, smaller sorts 22s to 275, good wcaners 13» to 18s, smaller 9s to 12s.
