THE RANGITIKEI ELECTION.
INCREASE OP THE GOVERNMENT VOTE. By Telegraph.—Press Associat'lo-,1. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Times says the Opposition are welcome to the solace derived from the idea that the by-election shows a growth in the anti-Government sentiment. It points out that the electoral boundaries are not the same as they were four yars) ago, having been thrown into the neighbouring electorates, particularly the new one of Taumarunui, which returns a Government member. The number of votes cast in 1905 was 5122, and on Thursday 4421. Last December the votes cast for the Ministerial candidate were 2238, and in July, 1909, 2410. The unsuccessful candidate in each instance obtained 2083 and 2011, so that the facts are quite the reverse of what is alleged.
