COMMONWEALTH AND STATES. By Cable.—Press Association.—CopyrigJ Melbourne, September 24. Mr. Bruce Smith, in the House of Representatives, stated that one of the conditions of the fusion was that the Braddon clause would not be altered permanently at once, but that there should be an extension of five years.
THE STATE DEBTS. Received 25, 0.20 a.m. Melbourne, September 24. The Premier (Mr. Deakin) moved the second reading of a Bill to enable the Federal Government to take over the State debts. He explained it would <il low of the control of 250 million and relieve the States of alt obligations excepting the payment of £3,160,000 interest. The debate was adjourned till Tuesday.
