EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education. Board, resumed its ordinary mooting yesterday morning. All the members were present, with the exception of Mr. Kennedy, in wiiose c«se leave of absence was granted, Air. Jus. Wade presided. ; FINANCE COMMITTEE.

■MARCO SCHOOL. The secretary for Education wrote: "1 am directed to inform you that the Minister has again- considered the matter of granting house allowance to the teacher of the Marco school. It would appear that the Board has done away with the (residential part of the building and that consequently the teacher can legally demand the allowance. This being the case, the Minister considers that the Board must take the responsibility for its own action, as he cannot admit its right to make alterations of which the effect is to .impose an unauthorised , charge upon toe government. For this reason the application for house allowance must be declined." 1 The teacher will be notified that no house allowance is payable, and the Department informed ot the 4 ! tion.

MISCELLANEOUS. Tiio Oaonui school committee will be informed that the Board cannot «üb«idisc committees for the purpose of tennis courts.

Messrs Morison and Trimble were appointed a committee to visit York Road' and endeavor to make arrangements for the continuance of the school.

The Pembroke committee will he granted the slim of £li 5s towards the cost of a new fence, and informed that the question of painting the school buildings will be considered in due course.

Mr. W. Taylor's appointment to the Kaimiro Committee in place of Mr. D. Hamilton (resigned) was confirmed. The Board, after -receiving the report of its committee on the items included in the claim for a subsidy 011 the Stratford shelter shed, was* quite satisfied that the claim was a genuine one, and saw 110 good reasons for the withholding of the subsidy by the Department.

The teacher of the -Marco school will be notified that house allowance will not be available, and that the Department he informed of the Board's action.

The Kaimiro Committee's request for the enlargement of the school could not be entertained'.
