MASS OF EARTH FALLS ON THE TRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. iThe North Island .Main Trunk train, due here at 4.25 p.m. yesterday, arrived over three hours late owing to a slip on the line at Erna. A mai* of earth loosened as the train was approaching and fell in front and at the side of the engine.

The cow-catcher buckled under the engine, and the mail van was alsj damaged, whilst the steps of one 01 two carriages were bent. On arrival at Marton there was a further delay of half an hour through the necessity of transicrring mails to a new postal car. It is reported that several passengeis sustained trilling injuries.
