By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, September 20. The High Commissioner's' cable, dated London, September 18, reports: — Mutton. —The market is firm and supplies are decreasing. There is an endeavor amongst holders to raise the price of mutton in anticipation of small shipments. Canterbury is quoted at 3!/ 2 d, North Island 3'Ad, River Plate 3'/ad. -The lamb market is' weak and the stock heavy, Lamb is selling at the 'present price for mutton. Canterbury o'/.d, North Island 3'/;d. Beef.—The market is quiet, with a fair local demand. New Zealand hinds are .[noted at 3%d, fores 2%d. Butter.—The market is very firm for the best quality, and is advancing steadily. The Grocer 'newspaper advises that forward purchase should be avoided at the present -state of the market. Price for New Zealand butter to-day is 118s ex Tmakina, Australian 114s, Danish 1245, Siberian 100s.
Cheese.—The market is dull with a small demand. Buyers are holding back, expecting 'prices to go lower. New Zealand 58s, Canadian 575.
llcuvp. —The market is steady. No transactions' of importance are reported.
