HEALTHY HOUSEWORK. SOME HINTS OX SWEEPING. One of the best exercises for a. woman is sweeping, providing, of course, that it is done intelligently. A woman who dot's her own housework may console hereclf with the reflection that she is taking a part of her daily gymnastics. To make sweeping a pleasure instead of a task there are some points to be remembered. Many women strain their backs at this kind of work because they grasp the handle at the top and make a circular motion, wrenching the body above the hip. MOVE OUT ALL LARGE FURNITURE. The correct way is far simpler. Before commencing to sweep put all the large pieces of furniture out of the rosin. Thea open the windows to create a current of air. Hold the broom with both hands several inches below the top. It U not nceesßary to sweep hard, but ths itrokc must be even.
At tlie conclusion of the seeping the broom should be hung upside down on the nail. It should never be left standing on the brush part, ae this breaks or bends the bristles. It will last longer if dipped into soapy water once or tw'ce a week and then allowed to dry .thoroughly before it is used, again. Curtains that arc long may be protected by covering with a sheet or by being rolled and pinned at the top. The small rugs used in a bathroom and hill ought to be shaken by a door or open window. A large rug must be fiwupt !ika a carpet and the edges ought to be turned up while the floor is treated.
WINDOW-WASHING. The window frame sought to be washed every other day. The panes, should be dusted every morning and washed once a week. They should he washed with a moist cloth and not with one that is wet. Windows will never shine if soap is used, but borax is a good substitute. . '*■ If the windows are stained the spots may be removed with alcohol or paraffin.
