INTERESTING STATISTICS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, September 17. hi the House of Commons, Mr. LloydGeorge, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in reply to Mr. F. W. Verney, Liberal member for Buckingham, said the cost of the old-age pensions between January 1 and September 1 was distributed as follows: England and Wales .. £3,-270.000. Ireland ±'1.531,000 Scotland £393,000 The number of pensions granted was distributed as follows: England and Wales .. 410,000 Ireland • 184,000 Scotland 73 t Ooo Thus the pensioners proportionately to the population were 11 per thousand in England and Wales, 42 per thousand in Ireland, and IS per thousand in Scotland.
