Sir Elliot' Lewis, Premier of Tasmania, in his Financial Statement, estimated the year to end with a deficiency of £80,218, making, with the previous year's deficiency, £123,000. He proposed to impose n super-tax of onefourth of the lnnd tax, also an income tax and an ability tax. He anticipated the financial stress would be much rilieved under the new per capita revenue from the Commonwealth.
