Peter Hartshorn, lessee of the premises formerly licensed at Johnsonv.llc (now part of a no-liccnso district) was fined £IOO and costs for selling liquor. The defence was thnt defendant had started a "social club," of which he was secretary, and which was run under the 'locker" system. In starting this club defendant had given away a quantity of liquor. The Magistrate, Mr. Riddcll, said it was unlikely that a man would make a free distribution of liquor to people he did not know.
