' The ordinary monthly meeting of the 1 I Egmont Comity Council was held <m 11 Friday. I The clerk called for nominations for \ chairman, as thu previous chairman had II resigned from the Council. Cr. Hurst ; ■ proposed Cr. Dudley. Seconded by Cr. !. Harvey and Cr. Dudley was elected. I A letter was read from Dr. Walker i slating that cases of enteric fever had broken out at Kahotu and l'ungare'nu. and that the patients wove scut to the New Plymouth Hospital. Mr. W. Kewll wrote re the condition in which his paddock was left aftn the crusher had been there. He »avc an explanation of what took place" between him and the foreman. The for.! man also gave his version of the affai/ but they did not agree. Resolved, T!mMr. Revell be offered £1 in full settle uicnt of his claim against the Council. The Kahotu Xortfiera foreman report j ed:—During the month "my time has been occupied repairing the Main South 1 l-ond between Oaonui and Puniho, breaking stone for repairing the Main South road, raking up loose stone, filling the holes with them and making watorlahles where required. Through the continuous bad weather parts of the main road between Kahotu and Warea arc .breaking up very fast. I want the Council to give me permission to employ a man for a few weeks to help me and get metal ready for repairing the main road. The Rahotu Southern foreman reported:—During the month I have 'been generally repairing the Main South road between Te Nauru and Oaonui rivers; also repaired the road between Waiaua and Toungatara rivers. Eltham road has also been repaired during the month. The Town Hoard foreman and myself inspected the culvert across the Main South road (opposite the school residence) and we find the present culvert is quite sound for a number of years yet, and would recommend the same to be lengthened with three-feel concrete pipes. A. good job could be made of it for about £3o. If the Council intends going on with this work it is necessary to have the pip« made as soon as possible. It will take some time before the pipes are ready for use. I have no doubt arrangements could be made with the Pnrihnka Road Board for the lis- of three lift moulds Resolved, That if tile Town Board will bear half the cost of the culvert across the Main road the Council will do the work. Account* amounting to £.I3G 10s were passed for payment.
