SCHOOL TEACHERS CLASSES
KAH/WAY CONCESSIONS WITHDRAWN. Hy Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The decision of the Minister for Railways lo withdraw the railway concessions at present granted to schoolteachers attending training classes was discussed at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Education Board. The notification from the Department was to the effect that at the end of the present mouth the issue of free passes would cease. It would still be open lo the Beard to apply for concessions for teachers attending conferences or special classes.
Mr. F. G, Fiinlic said he considered the matter a serious one. It was, in fact, an outrageous step to take. He moved Jhjit a strong letter of protest be senf fo the Minister for Education and the Minister for Railways. Th"rc were, he added, 102 teachers in the Auckland district availing themselves of these concessions.
Mr. Edgecumbc, in seconding, said ft was a preposterous proposal. One 'Department was doing nil it could for education, and the other was doing all it could lo nullify those efforts. Mr. Garland' said they never knew what lo expect next from the Minister for Railways in his desire to make the railways pay. It would be a grievous tiling if this proposal were put into force. The motion was carried.
