It is rumored thai the vacant Anglican bishopric of Waiapu may be offered wither to Canon Mac-Murray, of St. Mary's Cathedral, Auckland, or Arcudeacon Williams, of Hawke's Bay. The name of Archdeacon Averill, of Christchurch, has also been mentioned. A dillicultv in connection with the appoint* ment arises out of the fact that the bishopric endowment i«s ao small, that it is i almost essential that the bishop should have considerable private means. A correspondent writes from Tariki:' "On Friday evening, September 10. a' surprise visit was paid to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Coutt*, of Tariki, by a number of their friends, to congratulate tiiem on tiie celebration of their silver wedding. During the evening Ihe bride and bridegroom were presented with a silver tea.pot, suitably inscribed, from the adherents of the Methodist Church. Mr. A. Brown made the presentation, as being the oldest friend of Air. Coutts 1 present. Other ladies and gentlemen spoke of the good work done by .Mr. and Mrs. Coutts.
