DISTRICT NEWS
(From Our London Correspondent.) OAKURA. Our Ride Club has come to life again after lying dormant for some months, and held a practice on -Tuesday afternoon. About eight turned up, and some fair shooting resulted. It is a pity our young men do not take more interest in this sport, as there is nothing more interesting than rifle shooting once one takes to it. Another practice is to be 1 old next Tuesday, when a team will be picked to have a shot at Okato. I hope members will roll up strong and have a irood afternoon's shooting. O n Monday night a strange light was seen in the sky towards Moturoa. Visions of nitships floated before our people's eves. Every new star that showed out seemed bigger and stranger than it had ever been before. In fact, every one was sure that some great event was about to take place. Everybody was .wondering and watching, when someone came along from town anil told the news that one of the oil bores at Moturoa was on fire. The result was disastrous to the imaginative power of all, and one and all went to boil disappointed.
We are still having most changeable weather—one warm day, and then yesterday bitterly cold, with the snow right down on the ranges. Mr. J. Penwardon has been engaged with a gang of men for sonic time dismantling the old Oakum bridge, which will be used in repairing the Hurford and Plymouth road bridges.
