WEST'S PICTURES. West's Picture Company opened a triple performance season in the Theatre Royal hist evening to a good house. The reputation gained by this company throughout Australasia, by reason oi .the variety and worth of their pictures was more than sustained by last night's programme, which was the best of its kind »'een here (or some time, in enumerate all the lilms shown would take up more space than We can afford, hut some of tile best call for mention. "The Copenhagen Zoo" is a most instructive and intcresung picture. "An Englishman's Home" was a favorite. While this film was being shown, Air. Tom Woodard gave a fine rendering of the song "Aa Englishman's Home." The film depicting the All Blacks v. Wallaby football match met with appreciation, as also did "Scenes Around rvillarney'and " Napoleon and the English Sailor.' One of the best items was the British ' Naval a-ad Military Review before King Edward. The comic and trick films were all new and most laughable, that de- \ picting " The Runaway Horse" being perhaps the most amusing seen in ±,ew Plymouth. All the pictures are ci<.uiy shown on an extra large screen, ihe operator, Mr. Douglas, handling the machine admirably. A feature- of the show is the effects produced behind the stage as the various pictures are being produced. The artist responsible for these effects is Mr. H. Brooks. Mrs. Violet Hurdley, the pianist accompanying the I show, played appropriate music, her artistic manipulation of the piano giving a fitting finish to the entertainment. This afternoon a matinee will be given, when children will -be admitted to all' parts' of the Theatre for 6d.
To-night a special list of pictures will he submitted, amongst which -will be "Venice from a Gondola," "A Trip I Through Savoy," "A Bear on the Stairs" and " A Share of the Poor." By special request the films depicting the Naval and Military Review and "The Runaway Horse-' will.be reproduced. West's Picture Company intend to give weekly performances at the Theatre Royal, and if last night's standard of excellence is maintained the innovation should be attended with great success.
