BOXING.

JOHNSON GIVES KAUFMAN A WARM TIME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. San Francisco, September 10. Ten rounds were fought between Johnson and Kaufman. No decision was arrived at, but the contest was Johnson's light all the way. "NO MATCH FOR THE CHAMPION." Received 9, 550 p.m. San Francisco, September 9. Interest in the fight was slight. It was arranged that if both were on thair feet at the end of the tenth round, no decision would be given, but the referee, (Edie Smith) promises to give his opinion to the newspapers. Johnson was hooted as he entered the ling andiKaufman cheered. The champion commenced piraishing bis opponent from the start, smiling the While. Kaufman was slow. The Caiifornian tumbled when the gong went at the end of the third round. Apparently he was a beaten man in the fifth round. Kaufman was constantly on the defensive and unable to get at the champion. In the sixth round he knocked Kaufman through the ropes. Johnson was completely master and had everything his own way. In the ninth round, however, Kaufman landed a smashing blow on Johnson's stomach. The champion was wild but steadied himself and punished his opponent, ne crowd cheering. At the end of the tenth round th» men were struggling on the ropes, no damage being done. Newspaper men declared that JohnBon clearly outpointed Kaufman in every exchange. AH the rounds wcie Johnson's. The Californian was iinaule to land or avoid hits. The referee stated that Johnson outfought, outlut and outgeneralled Kaufman all through. He thinks he did not hold back in the ninth round and in some of the earlier Tounds tried to finish his opponent. Kaufman was no match for the champion.
