SUICIDE OF TWO GIRLS.
From Nice comes an account of the tragic suicide of two girls of seventeen, who were close friends, at the house of cne of them. About 4 p.m., the litt'e sisters of one of the girls, on leaving school, returned to their dwelling for the light refreshment -which she was in the habit of dispensing to them at that hour, and tapped repeatedly at the door without meeting with any reply. They went back after a while, 'only to renew the same experience. The poor children waited on patientlv until their father had returned from fits place of business. As soon as. he 'had heard their story ht became extremely alarmed, a:id without a moment's Hesitation he broke a panel of glass, opened a window, and climbed in. He noticed nothing of an unusual character in the dTning-room, but when he entered the children's bed-chamber he started back in horror. The room was filled with noxious fumes emanating from as many as six stoves ranged at the foot of the bed, on which lay the two girls side Iby side, and quite dead. '■ Wie terror-stricken father rushed out and called the neighbors in. and soon the news of the tragedy was spreading all ovcr"the district. The two girls were' dead. They had made their arrangements for their suicide with wonderful calmness and calculation, even 'buying that very morning ribbons to adorn their tresses, and also a large piece of crape, which they had [Tinted at the head of the bed. Each of'Tiiem had written a letter, which was carefully laid on a table. In these letters they explained the reason of their fatal acts! They said that they had resolved to die, as illnatured gossip was busy about them.
