Mr. Kelly jinovcd in favor of the iiuiiiefliale establishment of wireless stations round the coasts, ami that merchant vessels be equipped with wireless installations, ,is an up-to-fiatc means, firstly, of giving intelligence of the appearance p Australian waters of any hostile force; sec- ! ondly, of saving life aud property imperilled by accidents at sea. He suggested that one station be on the east coast with a view to establishing communication with New Zealand. The Postmaster-General stated he had much pleasure in supporting the proposal and 'hoped with the sum of £IO,OOO now on the Estimates for wireless purposes at 'east.two stations would be equipped—one in the vicinity of Sydney and the other at Fremantle. While defence -woufil be the main consideration, he hoped to make the system a commercial success.
The motion was adopted' on the voices.
