Napier, September 7. At the Supreme Court to-day Mr. Justice Cooper sentenced John Smith, who pleaded guilty to forgery, to nine months' imprisonment.
GAMBLING IN AN HOTEL. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. W..R. Hiscldon. S.M.. gave judgment at the Police Court this morning in the ease of John Jackson, licensee of the Grosvenor Hotel, who was charged with permitting gambling on his premises. The Magistrate said that, defendant would be convicted, hut in consideration of the substantial punishment inflicted on him by being compelled to transfer his interests in the lease an 3 liceitse. 710 order was made for en dorsement of the license. Bkftendant was fined £5 and costs.
