■ ;i i THE MOTUROA BORES. Mr. D. Berry reports that owing to the large accumulation of fine eand in tho pump and pipes, it became necessa.'y to draw uhe pump piping last week, but advantage iwag taken of this .to insert the new working (barrel and re-arrange v the Talives. It is hoped that about 'our I days' pumping this week will remove a" the oil, silt and water in the bore, an 1 that the trial proper will commence on or about the 13th or 14th inst. The directors of the Taranaki Petioleum Company met on Friday inight. It was reported that -work was progressing very favorably at No. 3 bore, and it was Ihoped shortly to make another test to see Whether or n ot the water has been effectively shut off. Unless anything unforeseen happened it was Jioped the whole of the casing used for this purpose would be lowered on Saturday. Some parts of the pumping appliances are now on hand, and a wire has been despatched for tihe balance.
GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. Mr. H. Okey, M.P., is in receipt of the following communication from the Hon. R. McKcnzie, Minister for Mines, da led Wellington, 2bd ansjb.—"With further reference to my letter of the 23rd Jun.? last, respecting your request that an officer of the Mines Department sliou.d make an examination of the oil-bear'ng districts in "Taranaki, I (have the honor to state that it has been decided that the Directoi of Geological Surveys sha',l visit your district next month to report Upon the subject."
" ANALYSES OF NO. 3 OIL. _ The -Minister of Mines writes further in relation to the industry as follows: "I am duly in receipt of your letter of the 27th ultimo, with reference to the analysis of samples of crude petroleum you state are being forwarded me by the Taranaki Petroleum Co., and ia reply may inform you .tjuvt the two drums referred to have apparently been s?nt direct to the Dominion Analyst, as they have not yet reached my office. I hare, however, issued instructions that your -wishes in the matter are to be; attended to." 1
