MARINE INQUIRY.
RECENT DAMAGE TO THE RAEAWA By Tele.graph.-Pre B g Association. Auckland, Last Night. . A nautical enquiry was opened to-do v mto the circumstances attending the damage to the after-boiler of the s.s. Rarawa on May 7th, 1909. The report in the notice of investigation was that on May 37, 1009, wKl'sit bm voyage from Onehunga to New Plymouth, the twi,'screw ship Rarawa. was materially damaged through her after-boUer becomine overheated owing to shortness of water therein The wnter-guage on the said boiler bad failed to act owing to its connection with the top of the boiler being shut off. When the casualty wis discovered, the ship returned to Onehunga. She was tarrying a number of passengers at the time. No lives were lost nor was any person injured. The Court was asked to say what were the causes of the casualty-whethcr it was due to or contributed by negligence, and u so who were responsible, and could it have been avoided, and how. Alter lengthy evidence, the enquiry was adjourned till next Friday.
