The music supplied by the Waitara Orchestra was well up to the standard of this popular i(>iii-li:n'.iti»n. Extras wei'e played by .Misses Julian and Rattenbury •and Xfr.' Bert Ro-wc. Xlr. A. Xlr. J. W. Foreman has notified is intention of resigning his position a; chairman-and director of the Tikorangi Dairy Co,, owing to continued ill-health. Xlr. Foreman has held the position continuously sinice the formation of the company fourteen years ago and prior to that was. for five years chairman of the private company of Hine, Knuekey and Co., who at.that time were the owners of the factory, ft is to lie hoped that relief from some of his public offices will have the effect of restoring his good health.
Cows are now coming in fust, and the the dairymen are -„ow nwniting the buyers offers of. we 'hope, last year's prices', namely, ll'/jd to 11 </.,A. . •Coming events are said to cast the'.r shadows before, but 1 fancy the desire of some of the AVaitnra people to obtain rating powers for their Harbor Board will not be gratified for some considerable • time. The so-called progressive element was much in evidence at the Harbor League meeting in AVnitiira Inst week, 'but their actions suggest to me the goose step, which is defined in military circles as motion, without progress. The rebuilding of the bridge was gone into, and in spite of the chairman's protest, the borrowhg of a matter of twenty or thirty thousand pounds was also introduced. How this money was to he spent nobody knew, but it was quite evident that the progressives, at any rate, had not the faintest douut but that it could lie got rid of some ■may or olher. Meanwhile, the prospective country ratepayers are to be "educated" so that they may nccept with a humble if not cheerful'spirit any burdens that may be placed upon them.
