Wellington, Manapouri arrived from the Islands this morning, after a rough trip all the way. She 'brings a large quantity of fruit and produce. At Papeete on August 22 the Xlanapouri exchanged mails, cargo and passengers with the Mariposa for San Francisco. THE CORINNA. The Corinna,, which was delayed at Timani owing to tad weather, is due here to-morrow' with a general cargo. RIXIU PICKS V? A " TOW." While on the 'way from Kawkia to Ouehunga last Thursday the Northern Company's small steamer Rothesay met with a mishap to her machinery. As she had not arrived at Onehunga on Saturday afternoon, the Riinti was sent to her assistance, and was fortunate enough to pick her up a few miles off Xlanukau Heads. The Rimu then towed the Rothesay to Ouehunga.
LARGEST DREDGER IX THE WORLD. ' Recently a large party of members oi the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and shipping officials had an opportunity of inspecting the new dredger Leviathan at work in deepening the approaches to the port. The •.party went down the Channel in the Dock Board tender Galatea, and saw the Leviathan, which is the largest dredger in the 'world, removing sand from a depth of 170 ft at the rate of 10,000 tons in fifty minutes. Before leaving tihe flaktea, Sir Alfred Jones said they were all proud of he Dock Board for the determination to keep Liverpool one of the -foremost ports in the world. The chairman of the Board said they had now an average depth of 31ft at low .water. The new HuddarUParker tng is to he the most powerful of her class in Australasia. She is a single screw vessel of 1250 horse-power, and her dimensions are: Length 135 ft, beam 2.ift. depth 14 f t flin. Her fire-extinguishing appliances comprise a Merry-weather puijp, to throw 2000 gallons a minute, and siie has a centrifugal winch will lift 1100 tons of water per hour.
