VOLUNTEERING.
As the outcome of a meeting convened by Captain Wright, which was held at the Technical School, a troupe of boy scouts (in connection with tha boy scout movement initiated by Lieut.-Gcneral Baden-Powell), was form, ed in Hawera on Saturday. There were eighteen boys present, and all had their parents' consent to join. Three patmis were arranged, and as a patrol consists of six boys and a leader three more boys are Tequired. Captain Wright is drillinstructer and Mr. R. Brown scout-mas-ter. Patrol leaders are B. Robertson, T. Reeve and A. Foden. The troupe were to have met last night for their first lesson, and will go out for scout work on Saturdays. A special feature will be made of local history in reference to outside 'work, and visits will bo paid to places of interest throughout the district. AH holiday times tlw troupe will go into camp for a few da\-s, at suitable period's of the year. The boys will receive a certain' amount of drill and military training, and the oufc- ! side course will include map-making, etc., of the district passed through.— Hawera Star.
