TURF TOPICS. (I3y "Moturoa"). Weights for the North Taranafci Hunt Race Meeting will appear in our issue of Monday next.

Ihe Marton annual meeting opens oil Wednesday next.

Local hor.ses engaged at .Marton w-11 be on the move on Monday morning. There was gome talk of the local trainer* and jockeys challenging the Taranaki reps, after Thursday's exhibition of Rugby, They would have a sporting chance, anyhow! Clemency won the hack hurdles on Thursday in good style. Cochrane kept her in front all the wav and she had no dilliculty in beating Maggie Paul ,il the end of a mile and a-half run in tl>e fail time of 2niin 54 l-ssec. Clemency should win a few hurdle races Hi;* spring. Her next engagement is ; : t Marton on Wednesday.

Overtime and Captain Bell, ridden bv Olliver and Jenkins respectively, carried all the shekels in the Open Hack Race. Overtime was practically in front from the jump and lasted long enough to beat Captain Bell, who finished fast in the straight. The other runners were a poor lot. The Captain Webb gelding Kauroa .lumped indifferently ill the Hunter-.' Hurdles, but had too much foot for the others, and catching the leaders at the iast fence, went on and scored by a length and a-half from Loeliguard. The beautifully bred Apollinaris (Phoebus Apollo—Pallet) finished "absn. lutely" in the first hack handicap, but was pulled out two races later to contest the second ope n handicap. Quick March was in front for a furlong, but Apollinaris had assumed command before the straight was reached. 'Here Jenkins brought Captain Bell along with a »rcat run, but not in time to catch the leader, who got home by a bead. Quick -March was a close third and the rest spread all over the. landscape. A five-year-old Chasseur gelding. Cluwse. led the field home i n the Ladies' Bracelet. Behind the winner were Xg.iwaka. Kedgemoor, Firing Cloud, and. eight others. Flying Cloud was one ef the first, nil' the mark, but shaped badly. Xgawaka. the runner-up, w:is slow to get going, but was putting them i:i fa-t at the finish and may score shortly. ( The Taranaki horseman, Mr. Alee. Mitchell, trained great kudos for hip- artistic lin ndliiiir of Mauri i„ the Hunt C'lub Cup. Of the four runners Cnvin cavilled at .the fence in front of the stand and Carronade refused along the hack. The Aucklamler Aesop was in the rear for twelve furlongs and then threw out a challenge. A fine race ensiled ml the issue was in doubt until a hundred yards from the post, where Mauri, answering to Mitchell's vigorous culls, forged Ahead and won bv a couo'e of lengths. ' The Vagrant made no race of the Licensed Victuallers' Handicap, leading! all tile way and winning by as much as iie liked. The Wanderer gelding jumped boldly and lias a fair turn of speed. On the .Wanganui form. Overtime Clemency and Mauri appear to he nicely treated at Marton next week. Wailmka started thirty-uix times last Sanson for three wins, scored .at, Avondale. Takii'imiiii and Taranaki. The recently issued Turf Register does not credit the San Fran gelding with a win mug bracket for the last mentioned win which was a dead-hent for first place' with IVrolinn in t1,,» Second Welt°r Handicap at tile Taranaki J.C. autumn meetimr.

Muskoiry and Wiiumcra were withdrawn from the Avondale Cup and -Vug handicap yesterday morning 6HVS a Tress -wir<. from Auckland. Ihe W'angamii sports intend to le! themselves loose this afternoon, when horse-owncrs will take on combined team of trainers at Rugby. Thw seems rather violent exercise for the bier , m . n of the Turf, and T fancv the local liors«owners would lirovo to he "roarers" if they tackled the game. However, (he Wangnnui owner, have „ solid team, which includes such well-known vetera.is i"' lt E 'n rinol ' 1 '- W T . Christie and 11. Speed—lo name a few. ]?, f. Falter is said to lie in good nick, bavin" done a lot of "overtime" lately. *
