In committee the Senate amended the Conciliation and Arbitration Bill by striking out clause 3 dealing with t-ie representation of parties at the hearing of a dispute. The excision particularly means that the Senate rejects the measure.

Brisbane, August 27. llr. Armstrong was elected Chairman of Committees.. The debate for tile motion to go into committee of ways and means is proceeding. The council agreed to suspend the standing orders to deal with the Appropriation Bill at a sitting 1 when it is received from the Assembly. Brisbane Last Night.
The Assembly has been sitting continuously since yesterday afternoon. With the assistance of the "gag," the Appropriation Hill got into committee, when Mr. Blair intimat'e'd his intention to move a memorial to the Lieut. Governor, pointing out that he had lu>n Jiiisinfoniied ill connection with the request for a dissolution ami that should he refuse to exercise liis prerogative tlien he would conflict with the expressed wish of the house. THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY, Melbourne, August 27. Mr. Deakin, Federal Premier, states in connection with the cable from London giving the probable strength of the Australian navy, that the programme will involve a constructional cost of something like three million pounds.
