CREW and passengers landed. By Cable.—Press Association.—uupyr>gl*l Brisbane, August 20. The steamer Waipura, bound to London via Sydney, struck n rook near Cane Moreton it midnight, aid was beaehe«. The crew and passenger* were landed sufoly. The bottom of the vessel is evldciitiy kudly damaged, for three of the holds are full of water. The weather is bad.
HEAVY WEATHER. IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE RENDERED. LIGHTERINCi TUB CARGO. Received 20, 0.30 a.m. Brisbane, August '2O. There was a south-east gale and heaty rain when the Waipara struck. RockeU were fired and the pilot boat immediately came to the vessel's assistance. Water commenced pouring in the second and fourth holds, necessitating beaching to prevent sinking. The steamers Palmer and Marinoa were despatched to lighter the carito of the Wlaipara, which include* 4000 bale* of wool, 700 tons of tallow, 1200 ton« of frozen meat, and 250 tons of copper. The pilot left the Wf.lpara before the accident occurred.
