AUCKLAND SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland. Thursday. At the Supreme Court to-day, in the caes against Oscar Valpo Syvall, who was charged with indecently assaulting a girl under sixteen, at Hamilton, the jury failed to agree, and a new trial was ordered.
WELLINGTON SESSIONS. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court Charles Krusc, chnrged with stealing a considerable quantity of red and white lead, was found guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy. Sentence was deferred. A SHOCKING CASE. Auckland, Last Night. In the Supreme Court to-day James Campbell was charged on four counts with having committed rape upon two women and assaulting them with intent to commit rape. The prisoner pleaded "not guilty." In summing up, his Honor said this was a particularly shoekiig ease, and the evidence against the prisoner appeared to be absolutely eonelusive, being corroborated by all the surrounding circumstances. The jury returned a verdict of "guilty" without leaving the box.
His Honor said the case was so shocking that he was not at all sure that he ought not to order flogging. He would like an opinion from the jury. The foreman said the jury were o' opinion that this was a'ense in which tlie prisoner should be made an example of. The prisoner was remanded for sentence till to-morrow.
