THE RARATOXGA SERVICE. The Union Company's steamer Manapunri. which is due back at Wellington o]j So'J.ember 2nd from Papeete (Tahiti) and Kara tonga, will withdraw from that service, and will inaugurate the contract fruit service between Fiji and Melbourne. The contract for this servica was abandoned by Mr. Sleigh, and "jae now been taken up by the Union Company. A few weeks ago the Manapouri had her holds insulated', so that the fruit will be delivered in a fresh condition in Melbourne. The steamer T.irawcra will succeed the Manapouri in tba Wellington - Rarotoaga • Papeete trade. The Tarawera is fixed to sail from Wellington at noon on September 17th, to connect at Tahiti with the Mariposa, mailing for San Francisco o September 27th.

A NEW COALING PORT. To the Pa tea Shipping Co/s steamer Arapawn belongs the distiiVtion of being the first vessel to berth at the Seaford Coal Company's new wharf at Pakawau. Golden Bay. The wharf ha 9re cently been completed, but some distance of railway has yet to be laid before the wharf will be in working order. There is a depth of lftffc high water springs at the outer end of the wharf. Tho Arapawa • called there to remove Mr. Doniild 'McLean's (the contractor) gear to Wanganui.
