THE BAILEY SEANCES.

To the Editor. Sir—Noting your loc'al in your morning's iiapcr. i beg to draw the pubis's attention to the further details of the so-called wager as it is published iu Monday's issue of the liominion, of W'e'Tiiigton. It appears to me that Mr. McLean is perfectly right in expeettag Jlr. Driver to accompany the substance of his wager with the statements of the siiid wager, it is not altogether on til's point that. I am writing, but simply defence of truth. We can no douut look back on history and recall many phases of like phenomena, either by Spirit intervention, or by material ugeuey. Notwithstanding how these socalled mysteries were enacted, we lin I oil'selves face to face with modern spiritualism, and it sems to imply insil.t to a grent number of the world's leading men of science and intellectual learning, to liud their co-workers ail with spiritualism,in the. Uue of their long devoted research, for 11s to lift our heads and denounce their inevitable judgment as trickery. It is very evident that Mr. Driver has "smelt a rat," so to speak, that Mr. McLean v. ill lay dowu such conditions that tii.: winning side will forfeit the spoils to some charitable institution, or something of the kind, and he apparently is in! T-i th" mood to adhere to such conditions, or else that he is beginning to doubt his ability as a conjurer. I have followed spiritualism for some few yea's and I have never witnessed such plunoi:iciia as Mr. liailey has put forth, but in the face of the scientific enlightenment such as wireless telegraphy and c.ther demonstrations of eleetiie energy, liow can I disclaim the possibility of the de-materialisation of material by the further process of electric knowledge, as science has proved that material is merely the direct product of t>e immaterial (spirit); or, to go further, the material that we behold with the material eye is merely the product of that winch' we can only perceive by the spiritual being tor eye). I consider, Mf. Kditor, that all that surrounds us is the result of electric or magnetic energies in different proportions, all bearing force of which our understanding gives the name electro-magnetism. Thanking you kindly for space,—l am. etc., SPIRITUALIST.
